vogli 86 #4 Posted August 7, 2021 OK, so, what size are those, and where are you finding them? I think I must be doing something wrong. https://www.tractordata.com/lawn-tractors/000/5/0/506-wheel-horse-312-8-dimensions.html FWIW, indicates that rear wheels are 22x9.00-12. My "new" tractor ('90 312-8) has 23x9.5 turf tires on it, and so does my "old" tractor ('73 12 HP). The "old" one is the same tractor we had when I was a kid (inherited it from my Dad), and I think I can say with certainty the rear tires have yet to be changed Anyway, I can find any kind of turf tire I could want, I can only find those ag type tires for 23x10.5 or larger, 20x10, 22x8.50 or just all the wrong size. Is it fine to put 10.5" W tires on my rims? Maybe this is a stupid question. My plan is to make my "new" one the primary mowing machine, and use my old one as my "horse", pulling my trailer, etc, once I get it back up and running. So, I'm thinking I'll get turf tires for the mower, and ag tires for the "horse", if I can find them.
OutdoorEnvy 1,522 #5 Posted August 7, 2021 Carlisle makes another tire that isn't quite an AG but close and it's in smaller sizes. Just search "Carlisle Tru Power Bias Tire - 23x8.50-12" and I think it'll come up on amazon and other sites. Just putting it out there as an option in the smaller size. vogli 86 #6 Posted August 8, 2021 @OutdoorEnvy OK, so just highlighting my ignorance again...but do you put those 23x8.50x12 on your stock rims? What is the workable range re: tire width? How do I know how wide/narrow tire I can use with a given rim width?
OutdoorEnvy 1,522 #7 Posted August 8, 2021 I'm not an expert...others here know far more than I do, but when I was in your situation I got some advice to try and stay around 1-2 winches wider in tire width than rim width. Not a rule though...just a guide for reference maybe
Gregor 4,846 #8 Posted August 8, 2021 These are 23/8.50-12 Carlisle Tru Power Ag tires on stock wheels. This is on a C-125. You don't mention what tractor you are putting them on. 3
vogli 86 #9 Posted August 9, 2021 I'd be putting them on at '73 12HP 8sp. Alternatively (less likely) on a '90 312-8.
