60” mower deck!

Recommended Posts

Creapy8x

So I am going to be picking up a 520h and a c160 here soon an have been looking for a 60” to go under them as I’ve got 3 acres of grass to cut! One gentleman messaged me an said he has one but said it measures about 56”! I am still pretty new to whee horses so I was wondering if anyone knows how to figure out how big a deck actually is if it doesn’t have stickers? From the pictures I’ve found on google the 60s seems to have more squared off edges! Please help

First thing I do is check the blades. You'll want to check the condition of them anyway and while your there you can check the spindles for tightness.  They should be all the same length with a few rare exceptions. A 48 should have 3 16's a 60 should have 3 20's etc.

If it's a 60 you'll know by the weight. they are beasts and one guy cannot pick one up alone.

Here is a decent one for sale with some pics.

To run a 60" deck you will need a 1990 or newer 520.   They have the forward swept front axle to clear the deck.   You also need the special spring loaded mule drive.

The 1988 and 1989 520s do not heve the swept axle.    The 48" deck shown will run on any 520 or C-160.

The deck pictured is a 48" and not 60" deck.

How hard would it be to convert the front axle in order to run the bigger deck?

I have never converted my '88 520 as I only use it to plow snow.     Many on here have made the conversion.

This is what a 60" deck looks like: It is a heavy brute...350lb or so.

Not hard at all IF you can find a decent swept. Word of warning tho with that beast hanging off a 520 frame cracks have been reported.

Just for thought Creamy a 48 hanging off a 520 with sharp blades  can mow three acres pretty quick you sure you need a sixty?
