jonw440 187 #1 Posted July 26, 2021 (edited) My C85 was missing the set screw that holds the shift lever in place. Well I picked one up and cant figure out how to set it. Does the setscrew go into the round ball on the shift lever? I had the set screw through the hole in the transmission but couldn't get the lever to stop being loose. I didn't spin the setscrew very far but it was into the inside of the tranny. Edited July 26, 2021 by jonw440
peter lena 8,720 #2 Posted July 26, 2021 @jONW440, that DETENT SCREW , is meant to initially lightly set on the forward extended end and shoulder out in place , but you must gently screw it into place , then you should start to feel its trapping action to shifter movement . make sure you have the correct Allen screw , do not over tighten it , just snug , then use the stop nut to hold the setting , also lubricate the forward end ensuring its smooth easy fit . hope this helps out , pete
pfrederi 17,866 #3 Posted July 26, 2021 Dog point set screw. Run it in so the unthreaded end goes into the hole in the shifter donut. Finger tight then back out 1/8 turn then tighten the lock nut
jonw440 187 #4 Posted July 26, 2021 I picked the screw up at my local dealer. They didnt have any in stock so the owner grabbed the screw and nut from a used tractor he had. I pulled the left side tire off for easier access but what a pain in the you know what! to install it and keeping the shifter straight and level so the setscrew can go into the donut hole. I tried removing the right tire but it is RUSTED on the hub.
stevasaurus 22,861 #5 Posted July 26, 2021 A long 1/8" Allen Wrench and come at it from under the tower. straight in from under the horse. Like the Allen wrench used with a Saws-all, with the handle on one end. The dog point goes into the doughnut...gently tighten till shifter doesn't move, and then back out 1/4 to 1/2 turn...then with Allen wrench still in place, tighten lock nut. No need to remove any tires.
