They have certainly done well in the road sector - peaking with providing the Moto2 grid with engines.

 

Hopefully this will be an equally successful venture, although I would have thought two current MX stars would be more relevant.

I'm generally excited by this, they have been gaining a fair amount of market share with their on road bikes by putting out quality products, hopefully they stick to that and bring in the right people with the right knowledge for this offroad sector.

While Cannondale had some problems, they also had a fair amount of good things going for them and they were starting to make some strides.  The biggest problem was that they jumped in to the ATV market too quickly on top of being new to the dirt bike market and spread themselves so thin that they couldn't stay solvent long enough to fix the issues.  They did have a lot of innovative ideas that if given more time I think could have helped them stay in the game.  Thankfully it seems Triumph has established themselves more so than Cannondale did, and so to echo your statement, I hope it turns out better as well.  More quality competition in the market is better for everyone.

I remember the Canned Hams.  I thought they were stone axe reliable and had great motors.  I just got done riding my Cannondale but it's a early 90's mountain bike back when they still made their frames in the USA.  Never owned or rode the C-dale MX bike but I did own a ATK406 which was a very cool bike from a mechanical standpoint.  I do a bit of vintage racing, here's a old pic of my 1980 YZ465.

sweet I was looking at a real nice rm 370 but I have to remember I'm not 20 anymore so go slow, work and ride on the tractors

Had a couple triumphs too.A 73 750 Trident chopper kick only knee cap breaker.and 73 bonney oil frame 650 bought for 100 bucks guy said it had a busted rod when i split case shift fork broke ,trashed 2 gears in trans.picked them up at swap meet fixed it sold it for 1500 later

  The TR2 and 3's were nice cars, Jeff. Up to a few months ago, we had a 1976 Triumph 1600 Spitfire.

  I've had a couple of Triumph bikes. Both T120 650 Bonneville twin's. 1964 and 1970.  The '64 was a true Bonnie. Would hit 120 mph. The '70 was an ex police bike. Lucky to get 95mph. I used to tune Triumph twins for a mate who raced, so the '70 ended up quicker. I got done on that. 95mph on the M6 motorway. £25 fine and an endorsement on my licence. If I'd been doing 100 plus, I'd have been banned for 6mths.

I hate when this happens... I remember my lost youth and go looking at cars for sale on the web...  I found a pretty nice TR-250 up in Connecticut and it's only $50K !  ha ha yeah, ONLY 50K ...  I longed for a TR-250 back in the day.  I believe you called it a TR-5 in the UK.

 

The Spitfire scared me with that swing axle rear end.  I used to work on a few for friends.  They could get squirrelly REAL quick.

 

I did NOT care for the TR-6 body style...

the 465's were beasts !

I would ride one - but only if it was already running ... did not want my leg taken out of it kicked back 

 

the YZ250's of that era were also great runners ... a couple of my friends had them 

 

guy we pitted next to at one track rode Can-Am ... great running bike but I think it was a tank

have two Cannondale road bikes ..  just recently spotted a nice simple early 90's Cannondale mountain bike (w/rigid fork) on Craigslist - but it sold immediately

Funny! I also have a 1976 RM370 but don't really care for it as it just feels awkward, so it just sits.  The RM is louder than almost any of my other bikes except maybe for my 1974 TM400.  I figured by the time I reached this age (63) I would have busted my arse to quit riding but nope I still race and ride.

My current favorite old ride is a '85 KDX200 my modern bike is a KTM300.

 

I do need to blow the cobwebs out of the 465 though.

a couple of my friends ride KTM300 - great bike 

 

I still have a KDX200 - but have not ridden it in years 

mine is an 89 - first year for liquid cooling and front and rear discs 

 

stock except for pro circuit pipe and modded air box ... and stiffer front fork springs 

(  can barely spot it - sits next to Ninja 250 ... 'ninjette' lol )

I had a '73 Spitfire.  Yup, the rear swing axle did keep me on my toes.  It only got weird when it was near the limit.  When you felt the inside rear corner of the car lifting up, that was an indicator that it was about ready to swap ends.  Had to be really gentle with control inputs at that point.  On the other hand, there were times when that tailing throttle oversteer could be used to help rotate the car around a corner.

Is that rodger? lol Had an 78 Rm125 liked it thought a 370 would be nice.what I would really like would be a 72,73 cr250 just loved the way they ride.i never raced but rode them alot my last bike was a xl600 kill ya kicking it. but just got my dr350 running.the newer ones are so tall.not used to it I guess.like to try a ktm quite expensive though. not alot of places around here to ride dirt anymore without some one calling the law on ya.so have to stick with enduros to get to the dirt.unless you trailer it hour 2 from here.
