WheelHorse520H 708 #1 Posted July 25, 2021 Hi guys, looking at buying a 607 with an engine that was replaced, not the original one and wondering if $250 was a good deal? I recently picked up a roller for $45 at auction... If you could add a belt guard, then test it running in each gear, with a load or at high throttle, so long as it doesn’t pop out of gear it should be ok. Also makes sense, but can’t do that with a non-running predator. (Starting to see a loss in value here). So without a belt guard, a potentially damaged tranny and a non-running predator how much would you pay for it? It has a predator 6 hp in it, but it has been sitting so it doesn’t run. At least that’s what the seller said. So I was wondering if it would be useful to me, I have a 1988 520-H that was purchased with a 48” rd mowing deck and a snow plow / dozer blade (not sure what size). So my question is would either of these for the 1967 607? Thanks for all the help. P.S. If anyone has the part numbers for the Transmission and the belt cover that would be a huge help, I am trying to see how much those cost to see if it is worth buying to fix up. stevasaurus 22,740 #18 Posted July 26, 2021 Absolutely, grinding those gears is very possible. The way that horse is right now, you would have to start it in the gear you want to run it. It is almost impossible to shift any Wheel Horse without it's belt guard. The belt guard funnels slack in the belt toward the engine pulley...thus the input pulley on the trans comes to a stop allowing you to shift gears without grinding. The belt guard is your clutch. The seller may still have the guard, it probably did not fit when the engine was changed out. The 607 would have come with a 6 hsp Tecumseh...probably a pull start engine. The "7" in 607 means 1967. If I bought that horse, I would be looking to put an 8 hsp Kohler K-181 on it. It would then become an 857...the "5" would be electric start. That horse is what is known as a "short, frame, square hood". They are excellent horses with a short turning radius. That one looks to be solid, if you could get it for under $150, it would be worth fixing it up. Want ads placed in our "Classified / Wanted Section" should find you anything you need and close to you. On the transmission. Any of the 3 speed transmissions will bolt right into the 607, or if you open it up...it is fixable for not much money.
