1989 520-H tire size change.

2 rear tires ( 23x9.5-12 ) on '89 520 need replacing. I have 2 tires (23x10.5-12 ) sitting around that will fit on rims but am concerned about clearance. Anyone hear have 10.5's with chains on their 520-H? Do I need spacers to avoid hitting fan?

Don't have any 520s but I do use 10.50 on a Charger 12 hydro with rubber chains no clearance issues.

This is the clearance I have with the 9.5" tires on my '88 520.   I think you would be OK with the 10.5"ers, even if they bulge the total 1/2" on the inside.

Just don't leave any loose side chains flopping around on the inside.

10.5 was the original tire size on my 1991 and up 520H's, 9.5 was recommended ag tires.  The first 520H's had 9.5 and the 520HC had 10.5.

The 1988, 1989, 520-H had 7" wide rear wheels that will make the side of 10.50 tire bulge out more then the later 8.5" wide wheels.

Tires are on without chains and look good. I think the chains are more likely to hit the tank bracket than the hydro fan. Chains will definitely need to have no slop on inside.

I bought a pair of wheels with 10.5 Dico tires that I believe to be original.  I don't know what tractor they were on, but the seller did say it was a Wheelhorse. The offset is less causing the reduced clearance at the tank bracket, so check that.

Norman with isavetractors.com has a 300 series (I believe they are the same frame, or at least very similar in size) and had a Video (about 9 minutes into the video) about how the sidewalls actually rubbed with the frame.
