Gregor 4,846 #1 Posted July 23, 2021 (edited) Mower for sale on FB. Says motor runs great. (of course) Who made these engines for Craftsman? Kind-a looks like my Briggs twin. I thought the pic would be bigger. It says 4 cycle. Electronic Ignition. Twin Cylinder. Cast Iron Bores. Edited July 23, 2021 by Gregor
bds1984 1,429 #2 Posted July 23, 2021 That is a Briggs and Stratton all day long. Great engines. If the engine is the 18 HP is has ball bearings on the crankshaft and can be used in our Wheel Horses.

A while back someone posted a briggs decoder ring for the engine model number and one of the numbers tells which crank bearing / bushing is installed. bds1984 1,429 #4 Posted July 24, 2021 I've posed that number chart here many times. Look for the model number. Odds are in your favor it has ball bearings on the crank if it is 18+ HP. 2
kpinnc 12,049 #5 Posted July 24, 2021 Got one just like it. If it has a PTO bearing, it is a small one.

bds1984 1,429 #7 Posted July 25, 2021 (edited) As long as the second-to-last digit in the model number is a 2 or 3, the engine has a ball bearing crankshaft. I always look for 422437 or 422447 on the 18s. Edited July 25, 2021 by bds1984 1
