libertybelle 1 #1 Posted July 22, 2021 314 Hydro does not want to start. Battery is fine. Every time I try to start it blows a fuse. Any suggestions on what to check?
oliver2-44 10,370 #2 Posted July 22, 2021 It sure sounds like you have a direct short somewhere. Does the starter turn over any? or does the fuse pop immediately? Remove the cable to the starter, then connect an automotive jumper cable to the battery positive. Now just quickly touch the other end of that cable to the starter lug to see if it will run the starter motor. (Do not try to start the tractor ).. if the started does nor run its time to pull the starter to test more, If the starter runs, move to the wiring. Someone will be along with a wiring diagram which will help you trace things out. . Start by following your large cables from the battery to the solenoid and the solenoid to the starter and look for arc marks. make sure there is not any rubbed through spots in the insulation that can touch metal and short out. Then move to the smaller wiring and do the same thing, looking for arc marks and or worn through insulation.
