Dan.gerous 2,696 #1 Posted July 20, 2021 You may recall last year that I wanted to build a soil trommel powered by the wheelhorse, that's currently on the back burner due to time constraints. We have a lot of muddy tracks in the winter and our fields are full of stones - so a method for extracting them is still needed - albiet on a more industrial scale than the trommel for our vegetable garden. So here goes.... Found some suitable scrap laying about and am about to start welding it together to form a basic grizzly that we can load with the Kubota - hopefully this will be up and running in days rather than months as time is of the essence! Dan.gerous 2,696 #2 Posted July 21, 2021 Rapid progress, have welded both halves of the structure together - it probably makes no sense from the photographs though! Ignore the vertical bars, I just didn't see the point in removing them as the tractor bucket should be fine working underneath them. We have half a dozen galvanised gates from inside the sheds that are rotten - these are going to turn the actual grizzly Bars. In the last pictures it's tipped on it's back so I can lay them in place. Will smarten it all up with some steel plate, paint and logos - hate things looking like rubbish. In the background is Pig Arc under repair - the bottom of the front and back rots out so I replace the lower steel work with new. The black and yellow drum is another project to make big drinkers for the outdoor pigs .... So much to do so little time! As if that isn't enough the wheelhorse in the earlier pictures appears to have a fuel pump failure - it was running beautifully up until that point! 3 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I got sick of talking about it, better to just get the cutting gear out and make it It's like the Massey 35, we had all the front end loader frame still on it - the loader had been sitting behind the shed for years. We kept saying it would have much lighter steering with all the bits removed..... One year later, I got fed up and spent the morning removing it all - now the steering is quite light which makes backing trailers 10x easier. The heat here has been too much, we have adopted Spanish hours on the farm, finish around 11am then start again in the evening when it has cooled down a bit. Its been fun as we have sat in the lounge watching spaghetti westerns for entertainment! Rest of the week looking hot, hoping it cools down soon. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Dan.gerous 2,696 #7 Posted July 21, 2021 Flying along! Basic grizzly is now complete, just a few hours welding to make it solid, then see how it works. Then repair all the cracked welds... Been a good few years ago we had a summer this hot. Its crazy, we have started at 4am this morning to try and avoid the heat - its not cooling down enough in the evenings! Dan.gerous 2,696 #18 Posted July 23, 2021 Success! Loaded up the Kubota and headed down to one of the dry sow pens for some rock picking trials. The Rock Grizzly worked as expected, the only problem we will have is getting the soil onto it - the ground is so hard the little Kubota struggles to get a grip on it. The rocks and dirt get sorted quite well, and if I add a mesh screen to it we will be able to get even the smaller rocks out. Have added photographs, video later once YouTube decides I can upload it. The pigs loved it, although they were mostly a pain in the ass - will pick an empty pen next time! 1 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

If they complain, just tell them they can do a little at a time. Doesn't have to all be done in one day! Why not approach from the OTHER side so the rocks don't bounce off the front of your machine? Oh yeah we did load the other side, just tried both but the high side is best. My plan is to park our big Valtra with it's bucket under the ramp, that way the rocks go into it and saves trying to pick them up afterwards. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
