19richie66 17,508 #26 Posted July 16, 2021 I had an International service van when I was at the mouse house. It was a V-6 turbo automatic. Just over 1K miles it puked a transmission. Electronic contols went out. Engine was a dog. I agree that the Cummins reliability would be nice to have under the hood. this would be cool though. 1 1

I was thinking about something like that too on the way to Portage. This bus was actually Mrs. P’s idea... not mine. I’m waiting to hear back from the auction company on payment details. There are ways to save 4% by wire transfer vs card payment. We have 48 hours to pay, then need to schedule pick up. Everything is in working order and passed the DOT inspection this year. 2

Hopefully all that crap is omitted from the get-go! If this works out, we may just keep an eye out for another in the future for a Farm Truck Swap. Better yet, just put the pickup body on the bus frame and build out the flat bed!

WHX?? 48,828 #36 Posted July 16, 2021 (edited) One of the gens they had problems. Don't remember which tho. They tried to improve it but it went the other way on them. Could have been 3rd hence the short years of that generation. Crank oiling issues or something and was a recall... CRS! Might have been just engines built for Dodge tho??? Achto 27,602 #37 Posted July 16, 2021 Did a little reading on https://www.skoolie.net/forums/ Seems there are a few horror stories about getting the title changed on bus conversions in MI. Don't let the DMV try to talk you into an "assembled" status, they will want to change the VIN this way and it causes some issues. Flooding the DMV with pictures and receipts when you go in seemed to help a few people out with changing the title from "Bus" to "RV". Is this bus conversion going to be an alternative to the toy hauler??

Lee1977 6,666 #40 Posted July 16, 2021 Leave it long and build a double decker Wheel Horse hauler on the back. Use a fold up lift on back for loading on both levels. 2

That's an awesome idea. Seen it done on a couple of camper back half conversions over here. 4 hours ago, Achto said: That looong tail swing behind the axle might make pulling a trailer kinda interesting. It does but it's certainly not impossible. Just something a little different to get used to. A trailer with the axles FURTHER BACK will be more forgiving when being towed by something with a long swing.
RandyLittrell 3,884 #42 Posted July 17, 2021 I have seen a ton of these used to haul pulling tractors, so half dozen or so WH's would be no big deal! 3 2
c-series don 8,722 #43 Posted July 17, 2021 Here’s my fire department’s bus conversion. It’s our parade float, a tradition that’s been going on for over 50 years. We used to have a lowboy trailer that was towed by my father in law until insurance became in issue. Then we got the bus and converted it so we can have a building on the back and water tank in the middle.Every year we have a different theme. We literally light the building on fire and go through the parade, I mean ripping fire with flames pouring out all four sides. People absolutely love it (most!) we throw water on everyone and everything but the fire! We used to shoot off a 10 gauge shotgun with blanks and scare the crap out of people but apparently that was too much for some people!!! 2 1

Pullstart 62,910 #48 Posted July 20, 2021 It sure is yellow! Note to self. If you use the flashing overheads, it activates the sleeping child alarm. When you shut it off, an alarm will sound until you TURN THE KEY BACK then hit the child alarm on the back wall! Geesh! 3 1
