lynnmor 7,305 #31 Posted July 24, 2021 Had a 3 foot tree of unknown species growing in my holly tree, when I cut it out it was covered with the devils. Stomped it as best I could but probably half of them got away. They were all in the red stage. Ed Kennell 38,146 #34 Posted August 26, 2021 I tried the sticky tape and it caught some of them, but most backed off as soon as they felt thier front leg sticking. They would crawl around the tree feeling the tape for an opening. Then eventually hopped off and flew back landing above the tape. lynnmor 7,305 #37 Posted August 30, 2021 (edited) Yesterday I took down the large tree of heaven to remove a large food source for the devils. It was covered with them and I was only able to spray a small portion. In hindsight, it may have been better to wait till they lay their eggs in the fall and then destroyed them. The tree was about 10" in diameter, 3 feet above the ground. The wood is very heavy and splits easily, so I will use it for firewood. Ed Kennell 38,146 #38 Posted August 30, 2021 My traps on the large silver maple are collecting a lot of devils and cicadas. But many are landing on the tree above the traps and climbing to the top.
