squonk 41,152 #101 Posted July 16, 2021 (edited) @oldredrider is sending me a care package of parts. We'll see what shakes out of the trees. Worked on the parts engine a little. It has a .003 oversized piston in it. Cylinder wall didn't look too bad. Cut the rotten muffler off and sliced out the nipple. Also had to drill out and tap a broken head bolt . stevasaurus 22,764 #102 Posted July 16, 2021 Mike, without looking, I believe out of the factory pistons were tagged in 2 ways...STD...&... .003. This means that they both came from the factory. Just so you know. Might be .001 need to look at Brian's site.

squonk 41,152 #121 Posted August 5, 2021 (edited) Didn't get too far along today due to me being a numbnuts. More on that. Quick hone of the cylinder to deglaze and put a cross hatch on it. not even 5 minutes with the hone. The governor gear goes in next. New copper washer for the retaining bolt as the old one was not there when I took it apart. McMaster-Carr # 97725A114 If any body would like some of these I had to buy a bag. I'll put some in an envelope. Painted the timing marks . Now for my screw up. I installed the brass governor nut WITHOUT putting on the throttle cable mount and the ring the throttle cable hooks too. dooing so bottoms out the governor shaft and it wont turn. Scratched my head for a good 2 hours. Finally got on RS and looked at prondzy's thread and when I saw the picture with everything installed the light bulb turned on! When I installed the cam I lubed the inside of the cam and the shaft. I used a hospital forceps to position the cam shim on the PTO side. I tapped the shaft in slowly with a plastic mallet until I felt resistance. Looking in the hole on the outside of the block I could see the shaft end and that the shim was lined up. Used a brass hammer and brass drift to drive the pin the rest of the way. Edited August 5, 2021 by squonk
squonk 41,152 #122 Posted August 6, 2021 Well DISASTER HAS STRUCK. Thought I saw what looked like a crack on the main bearing boss for the PTO side. Bearing came out easier than I thought it should. Upon further inspection with dye and developer it is. No pics at it's at my welder's house. What a waste. Sure wish I saw the crack a month ago. On to the "Parts engine" Hopefully I can make 1 good engine out of this pile I have.
