That's what I've seen on the C series black hoods.  The two hooks are the 'stops' that prevent the hood from flopping all the way forward.  The hood itself attaches to those two angle brackets, those are the hood hinges.

so Jeff you mean as example a  C175 ? That raises another question then - does a C175 take a typical atatchomatic, or does it need this style?

Yes, that's what's on mine.  You need the hooks on the 175 (and I'm sure other blackhoods, but don't have any experience with other models so can't say), but I don't think there's any difference in the geometry of the actual implement attachment part, if that's what you're asking.

Without those hooks the hood would flop completely forward.

The attachomatics all work the same.   The C-**5 series has a longer hood, and so is hinged farther forward.  Therefore, the hooks were added to keep the hood from flopping too far forward and doing damage.

Well now that's at least two fridays in a row I've been duped into learning something new. I try as hard as I possibly can not to do that, especially on fridays.

Could be the catalyst for a "Something new Friday?" thread. Hmmm.

If you'd do the right and noble thing and buy a Black Hood you'd know these things already... :ychain:

But the 60s short frame units are so much cooler.

That's Trina's favorite.

She'll soon have 3.

I'm more of a 70s big square hood guy.

They are cool but I really love the transformer look of the original 1978 black hood. By the way, the hood uses a cable attached to the engine to keep it from opening too far forward.4587BB0B-EE00-4384-A599-9F9593B978AA.thumb.jpeg.5cb4df95688eb5ba159c69f52d12fbe7.jpeg

I'd love to ditch my 71 for a 105X or even a 125X. But most people want outrageous prices for the 60s tractors, and my boy likes driving the 71, he isn't tall enough to run the 855 yet.

I have a C115 too. That thing is probably worth more in pieces than whole though.
