Deck lift arm falling out of frame. 312-8

Recommended Posts

I have what I beleive to be a late 80's model 312-8 Classic, and the issue im having is the pivot point where the deck lift arm goes into the two holes in the frame, it keeps falling out.  I am unable to figure out how to re-install it properly.  It looks like they assemble it then wweld the frame together unless I am missing somthing,.

If it is #27, the usual suspect would be loss of one of the #29 clips that keep the bar centered in the tractor frame and possibly one or both of the #28 flanged bushings.

It comes out (normally) by removing the #29 clips, then sliding the bushings toward the center bar away from the frame, then moving the arm toward one side until the other end clears the frame, and then lowering it out.

Install is the reverse--with both #28 bushings pushed well onto the shaft, get one end and then the other of the shaft into the frame holes, slide the bushings into place and then insert the #29 clips to hold it there.

Slid the bushing on the left side. Slip the right side into the frame then slide the left side into the oversize hole. Put the bushing in the hole and secure with the clip. There's only one bushing and clip (28 & 29) on the left side. The right side doesn't use them. :)

BTW. The clip and bushing in this picture are backwards. I'm just retaining the bushing so it doesn't get lost. I remove the arm in the winter.
