First Gen Toyota Tundra front struts/shock?

Any of you guys Toyota mechanics? My '04 Tundra came with the front drop (1.5-2") set up, they came with that or the leveling set up. A couple of years ago my local guy chanced the front out with Ouick Struts, and it raised the front about 2". I never like it and the ride was not that good, now with my right hip and knee issues  it's getting harder to lift my leg that extra 2"s. I've been to four local shop to see about going back to my original set up, none can tell me if what they have will drop the front back down. Two of them recommend putting Billstein 4600s on it since they are the same a the original Tokicko shock that came on the truck. When I ask them will they work with the coil springs that are on there now and drop the truck back down, their not sure. My local Toyota dealer says they can replace my shocks and springs with the OE ones for $1900.00, when I ask will that drop the front back down he said it should . I guess my question is with the quick struts that are on there now is it the shock what raises the front are a combination of them and the coil?

Generally, the struts SHOCK itself has not a lot to do with the ride height.  Typically that's the coil spring, but the struts themselves are somewhat 'loaded'.

I'm looking at the options list for the '04 Tundra and don't see anything like that.

 

Did you buy it new or used?  If it was used, are you sure the springs weren't just worn out?  And that the new strut/springs brought it back to factory height?

 

Of course, off-road after market 'diff drop' kits are available but those are for use with aftermarket body lift kits.

Sounds like time for a 'youtube' visit..... I've recently had 2 issues with my F150 that if had I chosen to got to dealer or?? the cost would have been much more than I wanted/could pay. Going to you tube I quickly found ..... dozens? of entries that more than covered my problems, and the good news was after watching a couple of the better ones (there ARE some crap there!!) I thought, hey, I can do that!  

 

And your mentioning your health issues ---- I was very hesitant to tackle anything tooo much, while I have a pretty extensive mechanical background, I am now crowding my 82nd birthday and sure can't do what I used to do. Your health problems may not allow you to do the work yourself, but you just might find info on your problem.

I don't have that much time under my belt, but at 68 I'm finding the same thing, though I sure do still try!

 

Meine Grosvater was still climbing trees with a chainsaw into his late 70s... until he broke his ankle and that put a stop to that.  I hope to still be able to climb for at least another year or two!

Yes, but does anybody use them to get in the drives side, if so show how to do that?

I don't have a Tundra anymore but when I did I used them all the time. Same with my current GMC. Infact my tubes rotted from the inside out on my current truck and the drivers side fell off when I pushed on the step to get into the seat. The 2 weeks it took to get them replaced was a PITA

I used Quick Struts on my Chevy truck. Took me an hour and half and no alignment was needed. My truck had a choice of three different struts. I ordered mine from either Rock Auto or parts.com. I did buy it by truck vin and it was correct. A friend had a Tundra that had a factory lowering set up and it was a nice looking ride.
