krohs nest 29 #1 Posted July 8, 2021 Dose anyone have an idea of how much weight can be put on the rear hitch of my GT-14. Have a log splitter with a tongue weight of 140#. Would this be to much? Thanks
ebinmaine 67,313 #2 Posted July 8, 2021 There's some variables here. What do you have for a hitch? How far away from the center line of the rear wheels is the log splitter going to be with that 140 lb?
Handy Don 12,167 #3 Posted July 8, 2021 FWIW, I have stood on the clevis sleeve hitch and had the tractor lift me. I'm over 140 lbs, for sure . But I suspect you are referring to the drawbar hitch with a ball mounted in the hole. I have looked around but never found a WH recommended tongue load limit for the drawbar or its rear attachment point on the transaxle housing--only the total trailer weight of, if I recall, 275 lbs. (mainly related to being braking safety, I believe). Adding a built-for-towing rear receiver might make sense for you. Wheel Horse Parts and More, one of the vendors on this site, sells several models and there are other sources as well. Many owners build their own.
Ed Kennell 38,029 #4 Posted July 8, 2021 I believe the drawbar hitch can easily handle the 140 lbs provided you insert a plate under the front end of the hitch to spread the load on the bottom of the differential.
