The problem with the grader is it's way too light for what we want to do with it. Years ago I got my hands on an Allis-Chalmers mid mount blade and modified it to use on a WH. The blade part alone is close to 60 lbs. 3/8" solid iron. I foolishly got rid of it when I found a WH grader. Well I got another Allis blade last month and sold the WH one. This is a pic of the 704 I had with the first Allis blade.

 

  

Mike, I tried to get the blade back with the 704 a couple of times but Bruce wouldn't let it go . Maybe some day .

The limiting factor is traction.  if you use a hydro it will push the blade down but if the soil is hard you will just lift the rear wheels and loose traction.

i use my grader blade on a 312-8  the lift arm extends out further for the side so using my foot on it is not too hard for me. If your tall it might be a problem.

I use my 50” mid mount grader blade on a Work Horse GT-1800 with front and rear wheel weights. It’s a hydro so it has hydraulic lift and down pressure. I used to run a road grader for a living and have always been impressed how this little thing works!

I was thinking of going that route. I really hate to modify the blade being it’s in really nice condition but I do feel it would make it more useable.

The boys above have you headed the right direction. 

 

We have a mid mount grader set up on Trina's 867.

She's the only one that uses it. Does all our driveway maintenance with it. 

The rear of the tractor has 110 lbs steel weight added. Much needed since Trina's fairly small. 

 

These blades are most certainly a bit of a workout to use. 

As stated above they aren't made to scrape deeply, especially in hardpack. 

 

She and I will be adding a scarifier at some point. 

 

Trina is a little "athletic". You'll see her referred to as BBT here and there. Black belt. 

Even with all her years of training it's some work to keep enough down pressure on a mid mount grader blade.  

 

She is well known to keep both feet on the blade to create the down. 

That's NOT advisable for others to do. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Sounds like a gal that would put a Whoopin on ya without breaking a sweat!. Yea I have some pretty hard pack idk what I’m going to do. I don’t really want to buy another implement ie a box scraper. I don’t really have time to build one at the moment. I might take some bar bells and cut the ends off, weld them to the blade and then stack some weights on it.

You could temporarily clamp some weight-holding brackets to test it out

I try watering the hard pack. Then experiment with how long to wait to grade it. I have granite gravel wit enough clay in it to make it rock hard when dry. If I give it a hood soaking then the next day it graded nicely with lift lever down pressure on my 313-8  I have the blade that mounts in the rear bracket.
