As time permits there will be a whole slough of interesting flat head Ford V8 goodies and other performance stuff for various engine. Can't tell the size from the picture (many different sizes with identical external view) but I'll guess a 270 or something. Nice looking 354/392 Hemi sitting next to it. Yes, likely late 50s. A friend had a 58 Dodge with one, can't recall the displacement though, and that had the deep scallops. I have a '62 Poly 318 sitting aside for an unknown project someday. My father has one in his '66 D100 as well. I'd classify them with a 350 Chevy in terms of longevity and ease of working on. It just seems to be that the Poly 318s had way more torque than the LA's - this is probably due in part to the fact that most of the LA's I have dealt with have been late 70s-80s smog engines. They can definitely be made to make power. A set of Magnum ('92-'03) heads wake them up nicely. My dad has a 340 out of his '70 Charger (not original, obviously) that he will eventually build for his '72 Challenger.
