I do not recognize the engine with the chrome valve covers engine mount location makes me think it's a MOPAR but never seen one before and would like to indentify for a friend.

 

As time permits there will be a whole slough of interesting flat head Ford V8 goodies and other performance stuff for various engine.

Love them boat tail Rivieras!  But my favorite was the 65 m.y. with the 425.

 

Fun to watch the video at 2X speed!  Nice scenery too.

The yellow engine is definitely a Mopar Poly engine. Can't tell the size from the picture (many different sizes with identical external view) but I'll guess a 270 or something.

 

Nice looking 354/392 Hemi sitting next to it.

Albeit a very early one, probably late 50s?  The scalloped valve covers were gone by 64 (I had one) and probably earlier.

Yes, likely late 50s. Later poly valve covers (like on the poly 318) weren't flat on the bottom, but I'm not sure if they would be considered scalloped or not, since it was to a much lesser degree.

That's what was in my Sport Fury.  I seem to recall that the covers were wiggly but not like the early ones.  A friend had a 58 Dodge with one, can't recall the displacement though, and that had the deep scallops.

 

That 318 I had (I typoed 63, edited to 64) wasn't a HP monster but it was pretty torquey!

I have a '62 Poly 318 sitting aside for an unknown project someday. My father has one in his '66 D100 as well. Very good engines - I much prefer them to the LA 318.

Thanks guys, when I get back to the farm as everyone locally referrers to the junkyard, I'll run the casting numbers from the Poly and remove the tin covering to see what other goodies are hidden.

I had one of those also in a '69 Barracuda.  That one got re-worked with 340 heads, intake and exhaust, and other goodies.  Had to notch the block to clearance the valves.  Got some good power out of it though... generally ran very high 13s a couple times but typically low 14s on street tires in JS/A

They were good engines, don't get me wrong. I'd classify them with a 350 Chevy in terms of longevity and ease of working on. It just seems to be that the Poly 318s had way more torque than the LA's - this is probably due in part to the fact that most of the LA's I have dealt with have been late 70s-80s smog engines. They can definitely be made to make power. A set of Magnum ('92-'03) heads wake them up nicely. 

 

My dad has a 340 out of his '70 Charger (not original, obviously) that he will eventually build for his '72 Challenger. They were always very stout.
