Jeff-C175 7,199 #2 Posted July 6, 2021 Nice job on the flag pole! The Panda eating the bamboo is a nice touch! But I wonder if you're sorry you planted it yet?

Thanks! Oh the bamboo… That was my son’s idea about 8 years ago… “gonna make money selling the poles Dad…” It is beautiful and very cool but a pain in the butt… notice it’s between two driveways to contain it… grows faster than a Wheel Horse collection!!! 1
midpack 862 #4 Posted July 6, 2021 Our neighbors planted bamboo. They had to have heavy equipment remove it after only a few years. That stuff spreads unbelievably! Still shows up occasionally

Perhaps if you lived in Mayberry, where they could use them for Crappie poles... My next door neighbor planted a low growing (no fishing poles) variety about 20 years ago. Shoots are always coming up in my yard, about 25 feet in. Regular mowing keeps it down, but the roots are still there. I can't decide which I hate worse, the bamboo on the one side, or the Wisteria that my neighbor on the other side planted. Flag poles should be as invasive as that! They should be everywhere! A driveway won't contain bamboo. Some years back it was banned in our county as an invasive so landscapers won't touch it and you cannot buy it. Local master gardener tells me the roots can go down up to 3-4 feet easily and they'll go laterally under a one-lane road easily.

I’m still waiting for my first profit check… Yup gotta cut the shoots as soon as they pop up then that shoot is done… Agree need more flags… 1 hour ago, Handy Don said: A driveway won't contain bamboo. c-series don 8,670 #9 Posted July 6, 2021 Bamboo has been banned in my town for a few years now. As far as removing it, yes you need heavy equipment but the bigger problem is nobody will take it as it will regrow if dumped or added to compost. Maybe if it was burned or buried very deep?

I have a not to be named relative in FLA who ran a 'grow operation' and used it all around his 'compound' on the St. John to keep out intruders. That stuff is nearly impossible to get through without causing a big ruckus. Talk about "Privacy Fence" ! His compound was bulldozed sometime back in the 80s and the stuff keeps growing back! 1
SylvanLakeWH 25,495 #12 Posted July 6, 2021 I have one of those HF blow torches I use to “weed” my slate patio. One and done for the year… When the time comes I will cut it short and do “controlled” burn… In the meantime, anyone want some ‘boo?
