Recommended Posts

Neighbor dragged over his 856 just "turned off" while he was mowing.  S/G spins the engine nicely spark plug tester shows nothing.  Check voltage at coil +  12.4 put test light on coil (-) and cranked...light flashed on and off.  Replaced Spark plug with new one an put on a different coil to plug wire still NADA..  Resistance across coil primaries 2.5 ohms (sightly low??)  Secondary about 13.5k ohms (a bit high?).  Disconnect condenser still no spark...???

What am i missing???

Throw a coil on it Paul. Even with pretty good readings, Maybe the coil is shorted to ground internally.:confusion-confused: Electricity will flow to ground thru the least possible resistance. A winding could be leaking to the case and still give good readings.

No safety switches on that old of a horse.  I was thinking coil...only reason they quit while you are in the field.  Squonk, knew you were going to say that.  :confusion-confused:

July 5th. The month has barely started. I've had my brainstorm for the month. Now what do I do for the next 26 days?

I had a condenser die in the field on one of my big tractors.  Real PIA took awhile to figure that out had to work in the field...  WHs are easier....

I had the bad coil thing happen on my 857...about as far away as you could get from the barn.  :occasion-xmas:

Had one of those old Dodge Rampages shut off on me one night about 8 miles from home. Luckily I had a spare pick up coil in the glove box.

Had a 704 shut off mid mow. Kill wire caught the steering shaft and wound itself around until it grounded out. :helmet:

All that was needed was a Phillips screwdriver. :banana-wrench:
