8ntruck 7,021 #7 Posted July 4, 2021 New spark plug? My chipper/shredder was not starting easily. Installed a new plug, starts on first pull now. Spark happening at the right time? Got compression? Though it probably has compression release, so that is hard to measure. Is gas getting into the cylinder?
squonk 41,164 #8 Posted July 4, 2021 (edited) A cylinder under pressure needs more voltage to fire the plug as opposed to having the plug laying on the cylinder head or using a spark tester. Could be the plug, wire, coil. Or the compression is low or timing off. Edited July 4, 2021 by squonk
dkg520 509 #9 Posted July 4, 2021 Changed the coil and put in a new plug. It took right off. Thank you all!
pfrederi 17,741 #10 Posted July 4, 2021 Great!! But don't junk that old coil would be willing to bet it was the plug. Coils fail out right (unusual) or act up when they get hot. You can test them.
