953 nut 55,240 #17 Posted July 4, 2021 The electrical wiring has a "nine pin connector" that tends to be a problem, check all of your wiring for signs of corrosion.
Horse Newbie 7,069 #18 Posted July 5, 2021 (edited) @Jeff1129 Like @953 nut said...check all of your wiring... While you're at it, clean all connections( spade ends, brass nuts, etc. ), and apply dielectric grease to help prevent future corrosion- just to get started. WE LOVE PICS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When you start getting into the restoration, check here often for advice and ideas and you'll get it right the first time. These guys know what filters, fluids, etc. is best for your machine ! I got my first Wheel Horse 4-5 years ago. It is a 1994 520H. I love it ! I let it sit(inside) for a few years after I got it, and last Aug.- Sept really started digging into it and ended up doing what I call a "refresh"... not a total restoration. I had a ball ! May I suggest you become a supporter on Red Square. ( That will turn your username red and allow you to post pics ). I don't know if you have to be a supporter to join the 520H club on here, but I would suggest that too. I recently acquired a 1984 Work Horse GT-1600 Wheel Horse- to grow the herd. It has a twin Briggs, and a manual transmission. I can't wait to dig into it also ! Here are some before and after pics of my 520H to maybe give you a little motivation... According to your personal preference, you may be able to buff the paint on parts of it, and maybe just paint the running boards and belt covers, etc. Then like has partially been mentioned- check over the tractor and look for any items that need to be addressed. I would take the tins off the engine and make sure the cooling fins are not clogged with oil, dust/ dirt, and grass clippings.

Horse Newbie 7,069 #23 Posted July 5, 2021 If the engine is surging, the first thing I would try is a good carb cleaning. I have heard guys on here suggest starting by first taking the top off the carb and clean... Others say take carb off, disassemble, soak, reassemble...may not need a rebuild kit. Also clean the entire fuel system would probably be a good move.
