BOB ELLISON 2,981 #1 Posted July 2, 2021 I've had this old white truck hood ornament for a number of years. I don't even remember where I got it. But I'm cleaning my garage and I see its badly tarnished so I decided to clean it up with polishing past but its pitted bad. I could sand it smoth and paint it red or silver but it will lose it's shine. I'm guessing its quite old but it really looks good on my horse. A horse on a horse of course. I'll make a plate and use the holes that already holds the original ornament on the hood. I don't like to make new holes in my wheelhorse's .any ideas on how to clean up the pits or paint ???? 3 1 1

johnnymag3 2,520 #3 Posted July 2, 2021 If and when you do it over....You can opt to have the White Trucks Name removed also !!!
Pullstart 62,911 #4 Posted July 2, 2021 What about a small buffing wheel on a dremel tool?

I'm leaning towards sanding and painting it and yes filling in the name with bondo or fiberglass filler.

SylvanLakeWH 25,600 #7 Posted July 2, 2021 Some folks have indicated on previous threads that they have had some success with chrome paint… I can’t recall who though or find the thread… perhaps they can chime in…
Skwerl58 704 #8 Posted July 2, 2021 Sand it and use a high fill primer and sand the primer. After a couple of coats and sanding lots of those pits will fill in. I would clean it and use it like is, it is unique.

Achto 27,602 #11 Posted July 3, 2021 My finishing info starts on page 45 on the link that 3D posted. Your urethane black needs to be super smooth before adding the chrome paint. Down sides - Price, the chrome paint is spendy. Adding clear to protect the finish will knock the shine of the chrome down a bit.
BOB ELLISON 2,981 #12 Posted July 3, 2021 Thank you @Achto I read the part that you posted and it would be to much money to do it with that chrome paint. I did find 2 other emblems just like mine for less then it would cost to refinish mine. I took my dremel tool with a very small soft wire wheel and buffed out a lot of stains. Before and after. 3
