Battery connection

Recommended Posts

Hi all.  First post since re-joining. I was a member some years ago, then the forum moved or something and I got lost.

Anyway, I have a Raider 10 with the teccy. Been sitting for several years, along with all my stuff. Trying one by one to get them going. This unit, of course, needs a new battery. Took the old one out, went to install new one, and realized the old one had apparently had the positive post grounded to the frame. Is this at all normal for one of this model? I’m unsure how to hook up the cables now. Any advice would certainly be appreciated. Thank you, Jim

Hi Jim, welcome back!

You might want to download the manual for your machine but I'm pretty sure it's not a positive ground system!  Someone who knows for sure will be along shortly.

No Wheel Horse tractor was positive ground. They do make those tractor batteries with the terminals reversed.

Thanks guys. I have an exact match to the old battery. Same terminal location. I’m fairly certain I removed said old battery and placed it on the grass in the same orientation as it came off of the tractor. Plus terminal towards me. Which indicated to me the wire on that side was to the frame. I don’t know. I’m getting old. I’ll hook it up tomorrow as I think it should be and see what happens. I’ll keep the fire extinguisher handy. Lol Again, thanks. I had never seen a positive ground on a WH before, but I’m mostly a dummy.

DO NOT connect the positive terminal to ground.  The previous owner may have purchased the wrong battery and that is why the tractor was out of service.
