D_Mac 8,621 #1 Posted July 1, 2021 (edited) So I saw an ad for Wheel Horse tractors and implements. Well I had to go look. The gentleman thought he was setting on a goldmine. He took me to two different properties to show me all he had. It all had been sitting in weeds and brush for some time. The one tractor had trees growing through it. We were so far apart on what he was thinking it is worth and what I would pay for it. Later that night he called and asked what if any I wanted. I explained that they would be hard to move as all tires are flat and the plows are on them and they are buried in weeds. I said I would ask to see if I could borrow a trailer. Well then he said he had one and deliver it all. How could I say no ? So here it is. I had it only for a few hours and already sold the cultivator. I cleaned the huge nest out of the blower housing on the 500 Special. Sprayed some starting fluid in the carb gave it a few pulls and it was running. I did not try to shift it in and out of gear. Waiting on that. The other tractor I am not sure what it is. I thought it was an 857 but the side cover says something else. Looks like 855 ? Not sure. Anyways I'm tired. More to come. D_Mac 8,621 #5 Posted July 2, 2021 The 8hp that isn't on a tractor is untested. Previous owner said it was gone through, but it was many years ago. The one on the tractor I am not sure of its condition. It spins and has compression is all I know about it. That tractor is crusty. Going to need some rims as they are rotted from sitting in the dirt. I have to decide if it's fixable or going to be yard art. The 2 plow frames and blades are complete and solid and the moldboard plow is in good shape. Deck is complete but needs a patch. Dump cart might go to the curb or lawn art.
ebinmaine 67,609 #6 Posted July 2, 2021 Anything is repairable. Just a matter of how much time and money one wants to invest. As an example, the '74 C160 Tecumseh tractor I have is MUCH worse looking than what you have there. That'll be a full proper restoration next year or the year after. Those rims don't look too bad in the pics. If they aren't rusted through maybe a session with the sandblaster would be good.
D_Mac 8,621 #7 Posted July 2, 2021 Rims are toast. Big chucks coming off on back side. I happen to have an extra set for the back, no extra set for the fronts. Going to work on the 500 first. I got it to pop. Need to soak the throttle cable. Clean the carb. Have not tried to put in in gear yet. Needs front tires.

Have not tried to put in in gear yet Once you get that one to run. Drain the transmission. Put about 3 quarts of diesel in there. Get the back of the tractor off the ground and let it run for a few minutes. Drain. Repeat. Who knows.. BOTH tractors might turn out to be easy fixes.

D_Mac 8,621 #24 Posted July 3, 2021 Lol. That wagon has carried its last load. Not sure if it's going to the curb or not. Tires and the box are shot. Suppose it could be fix but not worth it.
D_Mac 8,621 #25 Posted July 3, 2021 Spent a few hours this morning working on the 500 Special. Pull cord broke while I was trying to get it running so I replaced that. Got it to run on starting fluid but that was it. Took the carb off and a friend has it soaking. It was horrible. So the last couple of hours I spent washing it. Years of crud I got off, came out looking pretty good considering. Still haven't tried moving the shifter. Except for the engine it's all there. Has a 6hp tecumseh in it. I believe they came with that engine??? Correct?? Anyone with knowledge can school me. Here is the ID tag.
