It must have been taken apart before you had it. It was designed to have one.

I have ordered shims and a gasket for the bearing plate. 

 

I double checked the old bearing plate and I saw no gasket.

Thanks! I reread your prior post and it answered my question of the gasket and shim order, so I edited out my question.
