Take care of your tyres...

Especially if you like it, to ride a little quicker.

 

Today in the Morning when i was on the Way to the Company, in a sharp left curved road my rear right Tyre blasts.

I instinctively steered again to get back the controll while the car nearly drifts sideways.

Shift down and full Throttle to keep the car return in line on the road,

but the after hard Full brake it begin to swing again and slide left into a Cornfield.

 

 

Speed at the beginning was something about 90, so not too fast  - i believe.

Thanks to my quick reaction and a huge portion of Luck i was able to catch the Car back and set it more less „gently“ into an Field aside without hurt much.

At least i was able to drive myself out of the Field and ride to a Tyre Service Station in step speed.

After that i contacted the owner of the corn Field, he just said :

“ hey Man, you be the the first who feels responsible, so in respect to that forget about it.“

 

 

After a pressurewash later and a full complete Check, we need just 2 new Tyres - that‘s all.

No damages on the Axles or the Steering system at all.

 

So my advice - please check regularly your Car or Trucktyres to prevent such an issue.

It ain‘t funny at all.

Glad you’re ok, I assume the”90” refers to KPH and not MPH?

Glad you came out OK  ( used V speed rated tires when I was over there except for the Honda Civic 1300 I shipped over.  Didn't much worry about high speed with her..

  Air pressure checks happen a couple times a month here. Especially when the seasons/temps change. 
  Back when I had a company vehicle they experimented with putting nitrogen in our tires, seemed to work well. Tire pressure was always the same no matter the temperature.

Tires are one of those things that most people take for granted until something bad happens.

Nitro can save the aggravation of the tire pressure sensors on your newer vehicles from bugging you every time the outside temperature changes.

I don't find checking tire pressure that much of an aggravation if any at all.

 

Unless you've got a tank of nitrogen at home you're going to end up diluting the N2 anyway.

Nitrogen still reacts as per the gas law - pressure times volume = constant times temperature.  It is just that the constant for nitrogen is slightly different than air.

 

Interesting bit of trivia I ran across while Motor Wheel was still part of Goodyear.  We were in Akron for something and got talking with some of the Goodyear research guys.  They had recently discovered why a mining company was having tires explode on their big front end loaders.  Turns out that the tires were being abraded by the rims.  Eventually, the amount of tire dust that collected inside the tire reached a critical point where the eat generated by the ambient temperature and the working of the tire would ignite the rubber dust.  One of the solutions they tried was to inflate the tires with nitrogen.  That just increased the time between expositions, as oxygen would eventually work its way into the tire until critical levels of rubber dust and oxygen would build up and....... 

 

I just got in from pulling the right rear wheel off of my 2015 Ram.  The TPMS shows that one as having a slow leak.  I was expecting to find something in the tread.  Didn't see anything, but I did notice that the tread was almost even with the tread wear indicators.

 

Calling the local tire store tomorrow to arrange for a new set of shoes for the truck.

I check every 2. re fueling the tyrepressure, doing that since i started driving ADAC Autorally, back in the 80ies.

For me this is an automatically doing task.

I thought it make sense to share that, to prevent a more inexpreienced driver come in such situation.

 

 

I love it to ride on the borderlined last ripple of a Tyre - so between tyre start to slip and tyre loosing slip.

 

In my past a race never be won only on a straight, or by dangerous overtaking maneuvers, 

a race will be mostly won in high speed driven curves, what is my beloved speedscenario, so i learned it and ride it since.

Without that experiences over the years,  i be not sure to catch the car that way, that i could and put it more less gently aside.

 

However, this „nearly crash“ reminds me it is a good idea to share that and tell other peoples - please check your tyres regulary.

If things are sticking in a tyre a blast can allway‘s happen.

never had a scary flat like that but did have a tire come off my 67 mustang my first car and I was 16 car just kind of bobbled as I watched tire go down the road in front of me lucky I was just going 35 or so
