Matt Lemanski 20 #1 Posted June 25, 2021 Hello everyone, I recently inherited this NOS Kohler k301 12 hp shortblock. Any idea what it might be worth? Considering using it for a project but I won’t do that if it’s worth more than the project, so any input is appreciated. Thanks.
Jeff-C175 7,203 #2 Posted June 25, 2021 Got any "White-Out" ? You might be able to increase it's value if you remove a couple words.

Bill D 1,990 #4 Posted June 26, 2021 John Deere is a dirty word(s) around here. 😂

There's a 'friendly rivalry' around here for the 'other' brand. Tractors are RED Roses are blue Green and Yellow is not the right color for a tractor. See how good I can rhyme! I look at your short block this way... no matter what it's worth, it's useless sitting in a box. Take it out of the box, complete it with the missing pieces, and put it to good use. Unless the money might be more important to you, then put it up for sale and see what you can get for it.
Bill D 1,990 #6 Posted June 26, 2021 That short block shouldn't have balance gears, which is a good thing. Does it have the right length crankshaft and is it the right style block for a wide base Wheel Horse pan? I've see people asking anywhere from $500-850 online. Tuneup 1,433 #7 Posted June 26, 2021 I didn't know that a JD used a tapered crank! One learns something new every day. Would have thought it the base for a generator.

Matt Lemanski 20 #9 Posted June 26, 2021 Only the flywheel end is tapered, I already checked and the straight keyed pto end is the same as the old wheel horse engine that came out of the project tractor.

Matt Lemanski 20 #11 Posted June 26, 2021 Pacer, I am considering selling it, as my project C101 probably doesn’t warrant using it, so if you are seriously interested, let me know.
pacer 3,174 #12 Posted June 26, 2021 No Matt, I was just clarifying it appeared to be a WH engine -- I now have 3 of the 'Big D's' of which I am fortunate enough to have excellent engines in all 3. Sure would think somebody would love to get it!
