Mercedes-Benz 300D

Moving back to British Columbia and wanted a diesel, was thinking an older Passat but after researching the various engine options and their inherent issues with engines and automatic transmissions decided against VW old or new.

Then I found this older 1985 Benz 300D with 250K on the clock, she's a turbo 5 cylinder diesel with an inline Bosh pump, this pump is easy to repair and best yet it will handle waste vegetable oil.

The trick with vegetable oil is de-watering a centrifuge removes water and other unwanted solids.

@bc.gold , just the look of that " sled  " would make a stealthy build , even a stock 5.7 ls with about 340 hp , would make it a great ride. most common is a , camshaft and a turbo , easily 5 to 600 hp . matching auto trans . another terrific thing about a ls engine , is the mpg , incredibly efficient engines , pete

I had two of those cars and there is another one in the family. I sold one with 750,000. miles because I did not want to go through the trouble of changing the engine rear main seal. Have to pull the engine. I still see that car on the road. Probably over one million miles by now. That is probably the best engine Mercedes ever built. The 126 chassis was made for ever. It is a highway yacht. Great car definitely my favorite of all time. I also had new Mercedes and they all were not even worth of displaying the same name as those.

The Benz is going to remain intact, be my daily driver with a trip to Dawson City on a top secret mission which I'll reveal on completion of either being a success or a failure.

The original owner of the Benz a commercial fisherman, spent many months of the year fishing the car did not get many miles on it.

Yesss! Good move. You are going to love that car. It just floats on the highway. I used to always open the window when stopped just to listen to it. You are making me want another one.

I used to do that almost every day when I pulled my VW TDI into the garage.  And I still crack a window (at least) when at a stoplight when I'm next to a small auto diesel.  Those muted tap-tap-tapping rattles are just so regular and soothing.
