5000 Watt generator. Good buy?

Recommended Posts

Hello all. I have the chance to buy this wheel horse 5000 watt generator that’s “supposed” to make power for 100 bucks in central MI. The mounting frame has clearly been modified so that would need to be rebuilt but other than that it looks good. I don’t know what these go for and I’m just wondering if it’s worth it. Thanks.

Run, don't walk and get it.  If it were near me it would be gone.

Do you have any idea what they usually go for?

WHX??

If it were local I would at least go look at for that price. If the seller cannot prove it works that might be a dickering point tho.

Personally, it would be in the bed of my truck at that price, even without testing.

An easy way to test it is to clip a voltmeter to the leads and take use a portable hand or bench grinder with a wire brush to spin it.  You won't have the hp to make amps, but you can test if it will build voltage.

Thanks for the advice all. It’s in my truck on the way home. Looks great and I think it’s going to work out really nice.
