Achto 27,511 #1 Posted June 17, 2021 (edited) Just wondering if anyone has installed a 12v linear actuator on their late 1960's - early 70's ? I've been looking at actuators with a 500lb dynamic load / 1000 static load, an IP65 rating and a 6" stroke. Thinking it could be mounted similar to how the hydraulic ram would normally be on these models. Ant insight appreciated. Handy Don 12,166 #2 Posted June 17, 2021 (edited) Hello @Achto. Over the past months spent a lot of time researching these and never pulled the trigger for two main reasons: 1. Speed -- under load, the travel for most of them was .5 inches per second (so 12 seconds for a 6" travel). Faster is available, for sure, but at much higher cost and current load. An equivalent hydraulic cylinder will extend or retract in 3-4 seconds. 2. Strength -- lift and static loads were adequate but I became convinced that the gearing or Acme ball drive (depending on the particular design) would be vulnerable to impact loads in my application that were likely to exceed the static load range. For example, the single-stage snowblower mount can cause some significant impact loading on the lift mechanism. That said, WH did use an actuator for a few non-hydro models (417-8 comes to mind), though it had only a 3-inch travel. Also, my concerns may not apply to your app! in the end, I'm going with hydraulics. I can elaborate if I run into you at the show! Thor27 767 #3 Posted June 23, 2021 There was a oem version for those tractors, I have part of a kit I'm trying to piece together. the actuator is larger and mounts to the rear unlike the newer 418-8 style.

Yeah, it wasn't like a drop-in replacement for the hydro cylinder. Needed a different base bracket (not the footrest rod), a different rockshaft, and a different left side cover (it sticks out further)
