mcgreg 1 #1 Posted June 16, 2021 Hello All, Newby poster here looking for your guidance please on another deck spindle removal problem. The deck in question is a model 05-42SS01 built in 1991 on my trusty 246h tractor. This spindle design uses a top vbelt sheave with a welded-on tube that apparently is press fitted on to a .625 dia spindle shaft. Maybe there is a woodruf key there between shaft and tube bore, but one does not show up on the parts list. At any rate, looking through various prior posts here, I have tried to disassemble the sheave from shaft by supporting underside of deck, then map gas heating the tube od, then impact hammering downward on top of spindle end using hammer and a pc of aluminum to prevent shaft damage. The under side of the sheave is contacting the top of deck. Logic sez the shaft should push through the bore of tube and fall out through the hole, but, no such luck. Have managed to deform the v-sheave into and almost flat disc in the process. So a lot of bad waves going through my mind. It seems begging for more heat to the sheave tube, but all I got is map gas. Maybe at one time it spun and galled itself onto the shaft? What am I missing here? Must be something in there I am not seeing, but the ass'y schematic doesn't show anything strange. Please give me your suggestions here. And thank you all in advance!

biged77 113 #4 Posted June 16, 2021 WELCOME TO RED SQUARE! I've had some fall out the bottom no problem. At least two resisted all efforts including heat, penetrating oil, heavy downward blows, etc. Ended up using a Dremel tool with diamond blade to cut a slot in the sheave to get it off (not easy to do without damaging the shaft). Some of the guys have better luck and can give you other things to try, good luck.
mcgreg 1 #5 Posted June 22, 2021 Hey all again, thankyou for responding on this tough to remove pulley spindle. No amount of heat would let it budge so ended up slicing and dicing and got it off with minimal damage to the spindle shaft. Apparently at some time, it spun and galled itself to the shaft. So i am now hunting for a replacement pulley, part number is 78-1210. This pulley again was used on the 42” mower Pn 05-42SS01. The sheave is 4.5” dia., .630”bore dia, and the hub standoff is 3.0” from top of mower deck to center of v pulley. Looking on ebay et all, but nada so far. If you have any sources for this please let me know. Thankyou Redsquare!

THe part number has been Changed by Toro to 92-7080 $62.26 with free shipping. You can used that number to try and find it cheaper. wishing you the best of luck.
