Indeed, what is wrong with us ?

It's getting to be as bad over here in some places. Especially London. Mainly knife crime but sometimes illegally held guns are involved. We have quite strict gun laws and guns are not in anyway as easy to acquire as in the States. To be honest, I can't understand anyone wanting to walk around with a pistol or any other fire arm. Why would you want an assault rifle?

Also thanks to the do gooder's  etc things are loaded on the side of the criminal. Punishment in no way fits the crime. Discipline has gone down the drain. In the home and in the schools. Respect? What's that?

BTW. I'm not anti guns. I have two shotgun's myself. They are locked away in a gun safe along with the cartridges up in the house loft. I can only go on land where I have permission and if I was to carry one uncovered and in public I get arrested, fined, guns confiscated and possibly jailed.

IDK

No value for human life?

No respect for the laws and those that enforce them?

No self control?

No accountability?

No responsibility?

No standards on behavior?

Just plain nothing!

Too many people are more concerned about the criminal than the victim....

Very true. However to get to the root of the problem we need to understand also what drives people to this madness. Ignoring that does not help in the solution which inevitably is multifaceted. Trust me, I have no sympathy for someone who decides to pick up a gun and take out their anger and frustrations on innocent people despite whatever their mental state is. My immediate method of punishment is not fit to be mentioned here. ( Some very old cultures elsewhere may have the right idea after all ).  We have to however deal with that also otherwise it just continues. Too many of us are just set on our ways not wanting to have an open mind and sticking to old ways and beliefs. Who knows wether this is already a consequence of that stubbornness or not. Those of you who know me know that I do believe and practice many old ways . However I know when they may have to be put aside for the common good of others around me because after all it’s not about me or what I want but the common well being of the many that I may have an impact on. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.

we are living in a Bizarro World

from the urban dictionary:   A world where everything is the exact opposite. Up is down, first is last, good is bad, wrong is right, white is black, logical is illogical, giving is taking, insanity is sane, liberty is tyranny, and vice versa. It's a place where literally, the sky is forest green and the trees are sky blue.

This year I am serving on the grand jury for our county. Though we are a small rural county there has been a large backlog of cases from 2020 due to covid 19 so we have had four sessions so far this year. Each time I leave the courthouse I am saddened thinking of the terrible things people are wiling to do to others. The sad part is that many of the perpetrator's of these crimes have been set free from previous similar events and will probably be back on the streets too soon.

I can only speak for myself, but I  grew up on westerns and bar room fights. And to this day mostly what I  watch is shoot em ups. If TV and movies had anything to do with it, I'd have my own graveyard...

Answers and solutions are surely difficult to come by. I'm not sure if things are worse or if it's more of an ebb and flow or if it's just a higher barrage of information that makes it seem worse. Some interesting statistics here

https://usafacts.org/state-of-the-union/crime/

Without pretending to know any answers it's my belief that the most improvement could come with better teaching of the children. Are simple common courtesy and right and wrong even taught to children anymore? Or how to deal with disappointment? Life does NOT provide a participation trophy so you're Not entitled to one.
