squonk 41,155 #2 Posted June 13, 2021 Takes muscle but I have sheared them off before. You need a bearing separator to pull on the metal part of the wheel and a big honking gear puller or force screw assembly to pull it off. Or put the whole thing in s shop press @WHX24
peter lena 8,634 #3 Posted June 13, 2021 @chev0545 , best advise I can give is to , get help to hold a solid beam to side of steering column to a wall beam . eliminating the bounce increases the drift pin with 3 lb hammer slam . also use a new spiral pin and never seize as a lubricant with new pin . pete
clueless 3,005 #4 Posted June 13, 2021 Buy the right size spring pin punch then go at it, A punch just keeps spreading the pin, not what you want.
roadapples 6,983 #5 Posted June 13, 2021 An air chisel with the right size punch works great... 7
Achto 27,603 #6 Posted June 14, 2021 (edited) A 1/4" carbide drill bit gets them out every time. Any other type of drill bit will be useless. Edited June 14, 2021 by Achto 6

They are far better on you, the tractor and the steering wheel than a BFH, not to mention your psyche .

I bought a set of roll pin punches from the tool truck just so I could get them replaced if I broke them and wondering the other day how I could make something to use them in my air chisel. Kelsey 91 #13 Posted June 16, 2021 About ten years ago, I ran into the same problem removing that roll pin. Yeah, I hammered on the pin till the cows came home and it wouldn't budge, I ended up drilling it out. Then I found out I broke the lower steering shaft assembly cast iron support. Fleabay helped out with a replacement part for the broken cast iron support. I made sure I put a nickel's worth of never-seize on the replacement pin and tapped in place.

A nickel's worth of never seize would cover half of Florida! 2
