Kenneth R Cluley 527 #1 Posted June 9, 2021 So I purchased this tractor from P.O. in Macon GA. Has a 653 on belt cover, sort of resembles a 653 from that year (1963). Not original engine appears to be a K91.Lots of "issues". Pull cord broken, leaking fuel lots of places, funky wiring with toggle kill switch, cobbled linkages for throttle and choke, carb shaft sloppy, "modified" hood latch system, etc. etc. etc. Anyway, some people should not own a welder! Needless to say a lot of work cut out for me. I did clean/repair carb but local hardware only had nylon bushings. Has anyone used these for throttle shaft? and will they hold up? I will get bronze ones ordered and have on hand in case. Need advice on repairing area of cowling that P.O. cut out and stuck washers in for hood bolts. Any one repaired this casting? will aluminum brazing rod work for this repair? Thanks for any experience!
Kenneth R Cluley 527 #2 Posted June 9, 2021 Here is picture of casting, and P.O. idea of hood retention system. I would like to try aluminum insert brazed into area cut out. Anyone successful with this repair? Or alternate method of repair?
Pullstart 62,912 #3 Posted June 10, 2021 I’m going to go on a limb and say clean all that crap out, then PC-7 epoxy you a filler and drill/tap it or insert a captive nut while it’s wet. This aluminum welds absolutely terrible! Macon, GA. Just drove through there... they have an amazing Mexican restaurant and an even better Wings joint in their shopping mall.
