bellevillerod 834 #1 Posted June 5, 2021 Hey guys, I just saved another piece of old Iron from the scrap heap. A guy that works at my shop bought a small hobby farm from a deceased family member. He tried to use the tractor but broke a belt, so he parked it and went to Home Depot and bought a new unit. Got a call and was asked if I wanted it.....as my truck was being started I got the address. I have to say the OP must have cared for this tractor and maintained it well. Their are the normal things that go bad but it sure is in great shape for a 73. Having a hard time finding the belt sizes for it though. Sure one of you know offhand what they are. Need the belt for the 48in deck and for the drive unit. Thanks guys 1 5 1

I have a 75 C160 Auto and they are real close to each other. It needs a good tune up, pull head and clean carbon. Looks like there are some air leaks on the #30 carb. Small stuff. It also has the HD engine from what I have read, it has 13 fins on it. Don't know much about those other than you can really open up the bore on those if you wanted to.

Where are the air leaks on the carb? Likely can be fixed with a proper washer in the top of the bore. Best to rebuild and repair that one, not get new. 12 vs 13 fin for a stock tractor engine isn't a concern. For rebuild and high performance however those 13 fin blocks are desirable to some. I've no real experience with that but have read that a 13 fin can be punched a fair amount which can certainly do interesting things to the power output. Glad to see you floating around here! Looking forward to seeing what you do with that rig. Definitely a "bucket list" tractor for many folks... And you have two!!

The shafts have worn the carb body some, you can wiggle the main throttle shaft back an forth. I know you can get a China Carb for next to nothing. but I'd rather install a bushing in an original. Runs really well but has a slight miss here an their. I still have to do the points and set the governor.....Not looking to make a puller so the 13 fin does nothing for me, ya read it has a thicker wall than a 12 fin. Neat to have in the herd. Still floating around been real busy around here, about to finish up the 854. 1

I'd love to learn how to do the bottom bore but I have no machinery. Absolutely agree with not using a cheap carb. Haven't had any luck with them.
bellevillerod 834 #13 Posted June 6, 2021 Has a neat headlight lens on it. I haven't seen one myself, chrome horse with a black wheel. It's in great shape makes me want to remove it and stash before I go and break it. Wonder when they stopped using that lens and went to the "cheaper" looking lens. 1

8ntruck 7,016 #16 Posted June 6, 2021 A fellow Michigander and auto industry worker, I see. I spent 40 years as an engineer working for Motor Wheel, Hayes Wheel, then Maxion Wheels. New product launches are tough. I wonder if a spot of grease or drop of oil in the bottom carb shaft bore would help stop an air leak there, or if it would gum things up too much for the gonvener operation. squonk 41,155 #21 Posted June 6, 2021 73 may have been the last year for that lens. My 73 12 had the same lens. Really sharp looking compared to the newer one.

Ya this truck launch was like I had never been a part of before. They really triple checked everything, had to be right. Lot's of people watching this truck. I'm a Tool & Die Maker so anything they didn't have or they needed I was tasked with making. Lot of long nights but fun to be a small part of. 5 more years.................fingers crossed.
