Searcher60 209 #1 Posted June 5, 2021 Hello everybody! My 69’ Electro K301 starter drive is worn slam out. On occasion it wedges itself in the flywheel and locks up the engine and starter. The only thing wrong is the gear. There ain’t much of it left. I do not see any replacement drives. The reviews for the $50 replacement starter are not good at all. Any ideas other than a used one which may also have issues? Thanks!

daveoman1966 3,751 #3 Posted June 5, 2021 Is that the starter with the rather odd looking aluminum mounting bracket attached to it? If so, I have 2 of them in working order. Will find a copuple pics and post them in a lttle while.

Also check if you need to replace the very front starter bearing or the one in the front cover. The rear one seem to last almost forever. Drive may be the same? Thanks!

I am missing the piece that the starter drive in that link needs to work. The piece goes on the front plate of the starter, and the new style drive backs into it when it retracts. Not sure you know the piece that wasn’t used on the older starters.
