Handy Don 12,235 #26 Posted June 9, 2021 When humans take over an area it irrevocably changes the ecosystem. The order of predation is knocked askew and the effects can take many decades to become visible. In the 'burbs where I live, where the only predators for deer are motor vehicles (no hunting--population is too dense), homeowners are great at planting all the foods deer love to munch on. The relatively safe and well-fed deer multiply, of course. More smashed cars; more eaten landscaping; more Lyme disease and other deer-born maladies. Yet the hue and cry that greets any attempt at reducing or even controlling the deer population has ignored the science and blasted politicians into submission. Even if the ones you transport don't come back, others are quick to take advantage of the newly available and now-uncontested feeding range.
