701 drive belt guard

Recommended Posts

Shawn P

I found a guy to make new drive belt guards for my pair of 701 tractors. One of the tractors has the original guard but the other tractors guard is missing.  So the one I do have has been half a$$ repaired and may be missing a couple things but I'm not sure. Can you guys take a look and fill me in on what else should be on this guard if anything.  I've seen some other threads that the guards had a bracket on the front at the bottom that the belt rides on but the one I have didn't appear to ever have this. Also the small hole near the Trans pulley has nothing in it. The service manual mentions in the clutch adjustment section that clutch finger should be 1/8" away from the belt with the idler engaged. Is there a clutch finger that goes in the small hole? If so what does it look like and can anyone send me dimensions to make it?

I saw on a thread that I can't seem to find anymore that someone had a set of blueprints for these belt guards. If I remember right it was a fuzzy picture and I couldn't read the dimensions on it. I need dimensions to get the motor bracket hole in the correct spot also. The one I have has a washer welded in place of the bracket and I'm sure probably sn't correct.  Any help is appreciated.

I will try to take some pictures of mine tomorrow for you and try to get some measurements also.

Does you happen to have the brake cover on one of yours?

The 701 did not come with a brake cover or parking brake.

I will get you some pictures and measurements on the belt guard pieces that you are missing tonight, unless some one beats me to it.

Here is a pic of the belt guard pieces.

The bottom piece (belt brake). I made mine out of 10ga metal. It is 3/4" wide and a total of 5" long after to loop is put on the one end. It extends 2 1/2" past the belt guard.

The top piece (upper mount). I also made mine out of 10ga. it is 2 1/2" long and 1" wide where it mounts to the belt guard. It extends 1 1/2" above the belt guard, the very top of it is 1 3/4" wide.

If you need more help with this please let me know.

Very helpful. Like I said there was no remnants of the belt brake on mine. So excuse the beer box sharpie drawing but if I understand correctly this is what it should look like. The only thing I'm not clear on is how tall the loop is

I bent my loop over a piece of 5/16" round stock. When installed bend the brake so that it clears the belt by about an 1/8"
