bo dawg 516 #1 Posted June 3, 2021 trying to repair/fix this old Ark 508 and Im now to this piece. I see the original bolts holes were wallard out bad that bolts to frame, so someone welded these heavy pieces in. Im going to cut these off and weld new 1/4" angle iron in with nice crisp holes for mounting. Any tips I should think of before doing? I have all measurements as to location of the original angle is. Their 6 3/4" apart.

ranger 1,746 #3 Posted June 3, 2021 Err on the side of caution, “Tack” weld it together then try it for fit, it’s always easier to break a tack weld than it is to cut through a “Full” weld, to reposition something that turns out to be in, “Not quite the right place”. (Especially if you have a tape measure like mine, it has such a high ‘Coefficient of expansion’, sometimes it shows a different figure every time I repeatedly measure the same dimension’🤔😢) Then take it off and fully weld it. Or better still, “Tack” it together in situ! You then know it’s ‘gonna’ fit right. Doug. 3
JoeM 7,871 #4 Posted June 3, 2021 Interesting, wonder what the purpose was for the plates? Those look like old small rail track fish plates, extremely strong.

I agree, I was wondering myself what the heck they were. Does look like mini rail or I-beam kinda thing.
