Lucky.

Pullstart 62,840 #112 Posted July 15, 2022 I’m here at the Portage, WI show watching it rain… but during last night’s parade ride I spotted a Briggs ZZ engine in the swap meet. I bailed out of line and scored a deal! It has no compression, but I have hopes it just has a stuck valve. I’ll filler’up with oil when we get home, and let it sit a while. That, or maybe even pull the head for inspections. Happy to have an original Lever Steer engine though! 3

stevebo-(Moderator) 8,330 #117 Posted July 16, 2022 Surprised you have not already torn it down and rebuilt it at the show

I've had it running but it's been a while, thing ran nice and no smoke. Do you need a good ZZ for a lever steer? Or just picking up a spare? They sure are big engines for a 6 hp
953 nut 55,198 #119 Posted July 16, 2022 Congratulations on the score! Rotates a bit too easily, do you think you are hearing the piston moving in the cylinder?
Pullstart 62,840 #120 Posted July 17, 2022 @wallfish the Lever Steer currently has a Wisconsin AEN. Correct seems to be a Briggs ZZ… so I just got it while it was available. I’m not ashamed to run the AEN while I tinker with this some day… but it’ll do a great job holding the shelf down for a bit. @953 nut I think I hear it, but I took the gamble not even touching it. It was a drive by purchase during the parade! I saw it, asked him how much, he gave me a couple hand gestures, I tossed him the cash and said I’ll be back!

Pullstart 62,840 #122 Posted July 27, 2023 I took a stroll in the field today. The shift forks had been dragging gears while in neutral for a while the last few times I drove Jackie. I took the top plate off today and peened the roll pins so the forks would hold the shafts better. It seemed to take care of the grinding! 1
Pullstart 62,840 #124 Posted October 21, 2023 I’ve been getting Jackie all fixed up for plow day. Today’s the day to see if things will work like they did in the 40’s! 4
Pullstart 62,840 #125 Posted October 21, 2023 I built the lift arm quadrant based off of pictures from Lowell @wheelhorseman and guessed my way through the lift arm geometry. We stuck it in the dirt last night and things went very well! The new lever was the best I could do to replicate the original, but I sleeved the inside with 3/8 plate all the way to the handle and also made the pin greasable. I did borrow the top cap/end from the original, it was just too cool not to. 5 1
