callum12 256 #1 Posted June 1, 2021 Hi all, I've had this plough (plow ) for a good few years now and never really used it much. the times i have used it hasn't been as satisfying as the videos! it doesn't bury it's self and it pulls the tractor to one side. I found a PDF that explains all there is about setting up the plough and a theoretical point called the 'centre of resistance/ pull'. what's your opinion on the subject? my horizontal centre seems to align with the tractor nicely but my vertical point that should intersect the hitch and axle seems miles off. apparently this should be 1/4 of the depth of cut up from the bottom. so for my 8" plough that's a 4" depth of cut so 1" up from the bottom?? this is what i've been following, page 3 explain this theoretical point: https://manuals.casecoltingersoll.com/gardening/plowingtheory.pdf you can see on the picture the intersection with the arrow pointing to it, this should be my centre of resistance according to the PDF. if this point, my hitch and rear axle from a straight line, i should be ploughing nicely (assuming other settings are good!). any help is much appreciated, Callum
stevasaurus 22,711 #2 Posted June 1, 2021 You need one of those calculus plough boys in here. I can look at it working and tell you it is OK. Do you have a 3 point hitch, or the slot hitch??

Do you have a 3 point hitch, or the slot hitch?? it's the brinly clevis hitch, which actually might be something to consider: if you consider the WH hitch to be 'male', the plough came with a male clevis hitch also. i simply cut off the bit of tube from the plough hitch and bolt the plough directly to the hitch. this means there's no side to side swing in the plough. is this something i should have? I was going to make the proper clevis hitch for the plough and factor in any adjustments i need to get my centre of pull correct many thanks, Callum
Stormin 9,981 #5 Posted June 1, 2021 I think we could do with a photo or two of what you have. Is it a Brinly plough. There is a topic on ploughing/plowing. Lets go plowing-rolling dirt. Lots of info in there. You should find it interesting. https://www.wheelhorseforum.com/topic/77019-let’s-go-plowing—rolling-dirt/
