xstang77 2 #26 Posted June 1, 2021 (edited) Yea a little disheartening for sure,no wonder the oil pressure sensor's no good lmao it most likely got kissed by the flying connecting rod which I still havent found yet. I was thinking rod,piston,rings and light hone,surprisingly the cylinder walls look unharmed,however the crank journal is all dinged up,on the fence about what to do. If you have some time to do an autopsy, pull the flywheel, timing case and the flyball cover to expose the flyball spacer, then see if it is loose or cracked. But first I'd like to translate a thing or two just in case you're not familiar. The Onan's use a flyball governor system. They are a known failure point. The flyball spacer can loosen up and spin, causing the engine to over-rev and break. There are discussions of this on the forum here. As for getting the internal parts, there are a few options. There is a vendor on this site, A-Z Tractors many members have successfully worked with. Onanparts.com First decision will be new or used parts. A quick internet search says a new crank is about $250-300+ , a rod about $100. Didn't look up pistons. Used crank and rods on fleabay around $150. Critical to make sure you get the right crank and governor. A lot of these engines got used on generators and welders. Some run at 1800RPM and the crank end is different for other applications. First order of business seems to be putting together a parts cost list and deciding how much you're willing to spend. A full rebuild (and some of them are available) will cost about as much as a new V-twin repower. The repower will have nothing like the sound and grunt of the Onan. Depending on what you need for parts I would try to save it, I have found these old Onans will run forever if you take care of them…. I guess like anything. Onanparts.com has had all the parts I need, sometimes a little pricey but it’s worth it. You can leave a message when you order and tell them you need it soon and they will sometimes have it shipped the next day. Helped me out a bunch when I did that.
