ondeadlin 32 #1 Posted May 29, 2021 (edited) Spent much of last weekend working with my C-160 and the tiller. Worked like a champ. Left the tiller on, because I knew I had more tilling to do this weekend. Checked the trans before I started her up today, was a little low, so I added some oil. Took the seat and the fender off to do it. Put 'em back on, turned over right away, sounded great. Used the hydro to raise the tiller. Got in position, but as soon as I went to fully engage the PTO for the tiller, she stalls. Doesn't lose power or start to stall or make any problematic sounds until right at the end, when it sputters and stalls. -- Runs great in forward and reverse, full power, no issues -- Hydro runs as it should -- Tiller turns as it should if the PTO is partially engaged, no signs of any issue there. -- There do not seem to be any belt issues, too tight, etc. Same setup as last week. Any thoughts anyone has would be appreciated. Edited May 29, 2021 by ondeadlin
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,046 #2 Posted May 29, 2021 Seat switch hooked back up? Or switch may not be closing. It powers the ignition with pto ON with a Kohler engine. Garry
ondeadlin 32 #3 Posted May 29, 2021 (edited) I did reconnect the seat switch, but maybe I should check to see if it's fully engaged. That's a good thought, thanks. I would have thought it would have prevented me from moving at all, though, no? Edited May 29, 2021 by ondeadlin

The seat switch is only 'active' when the PTO is engaged as I recall. @ondeadlin Edited May 29, 2021 by Jeff-C175
kpinnc 12,091 #5 Posted May 29, 2021 Not sure of your model engine, but does it have a condenser? The PTO switches and seat switch interlocks would definitely be a good place to start too.
953 nut 55,320 #6 Posted May 29, 2021 Your seat switch is only in play while the PTO is fully engaged.
Lee1977 6,666 #7 Posted May 29, 2021 The plastic button on my 520 seat switch was so worn that if I shifted in the seat It would stop the engine.

ondeadlin 32 #10 Posted May 29, 2021 You gentlemen have again steered me right. Thank you all. Went out this morning, took the seat switch apart, cleaned the contacts on both sides, put it back together right, and that did it. Thank you all! I'm now off for more tilling! 2
ondeadlin 32 #12 Posted June 3, 2021 Pictures! As requested ... Used the tiller and the belly blade to remove a lawn of weeds this weekend, and then laid sod. 1
OutdoorEnvy 1,522 #13 Posted June 3, 2021 Wow! Killer view! That is really pretty. I hope that wood walk way goes down to a walleye catching machine

If the weeds were thriving and not scraped off for discard elsewhere, you may have just tilled in all their seeds and "planted" them under the sod. it may take a year or so, but probably "they'll be back". Very inviting spot with a terrific view. Lake Michigan? Edited June 3, 2021 by Handy Don

That's Lake Huron in the background and where we are the wave action is too strong for anyone to have a dock. I get out there in the canoe once in a while, though, and there's decent fishing right off the shore. And I do love that view. Even as I was raking (and raking and raking) this weekend, I was feeling lucky to be doing it with that view. Edited June 3, 2021 by ondeadlin

Very inviting spot with a terrific view. Lake Michigan? I did work pretty hard to scrape/rake and discard the vast majority of the old "lawn." Which was a PITA, of course, but ... yeah, you're right, it'll be the better move long-term. It's Lake Huron, off Michigan's thumb. We've got a little three-season A-frame that's just behind that lawn, old school 50-foot wide lot, long and narrow. Edited June 3, 2021 by ondeadlin
