syncar 18 #1 Posted May 28, 2021 Hello all, It seems there are very few Wheel Horse tractors running in France. Here I am with a 1986 Wheel Horse 312-8 bought used in non-running condition. The tractor is now back on track, well, only when the fuel pump agrees to work... 6

Nobody realizes the value from these Kohler powered tractors. Pouvez-vous nous envoyer une photo de votre tracteur ? I read a lot about it, but gave an aftermarket mechanical fuel pump a try (Kohler #4755911S) Unfortunately after a few days of work it loses prime and I had no time to put my hands on the machine once again Please enjoy the pictures attached, showing the poor condition of the tractor & back to work. Be reassured it is now in loving hands Other than the fuel pump, my concern is on the mower deck which is a 1997 42" rear discharge deck Toro #78350 (subject of an other topic) Edited June 4, 2021 by syncar 1
Maxwell-8 4,289 #12 Posted June 4, 2021 Good worker tractor! That deck doesn't look to bad... With prime you mean spark? That is most likely a bad safety switch.

The tractor itself is subject to surface rust which is little of a concern when you consider how thick the frame is. It is solid and good mechanically, just not beautiful and dirty. I'll post a picture of the deck on the other topic. Spark is OK, I mean fuel prime. There is no fuel going from the tank to the fuel pump when the starter works. I put a transparent fuel filter to see easily. Either the fuel pump is not working anymore, or it is because of a vacuum in the tank, I don't know Edited June 4, 2021 by syncar

She maybe ain't a beauty. but she is a good solid hard workster. that doesn't use a ton of fuel Had a 312-8 as well (most common model) gave it to family because they needed a good mower. It ain't pretty either. but way better then those new plastic mowers Did had to replace the transmission bearings and axle seals.
Tractorhead 9,064 #15 Posted June 4, 2021 Hi, i would check in follow Order: 1. open the Carb bowl and check, i there is some crud in - if yes, clean it. 2. get a clean and filled Fuelcanister with a Clear testline and check, if it will work than continusely a full canister long. If not, the problems can be in the Carb bowl valve. 3. Check the original fuel tank, If you remove the Fuelpump, check if it runs completely out with a good flow. if not maybe your Tank outlet is clogged. - clean the Fueltank. if all that works fine, the last issue will be the Fuelpump itself. if possible check the Fuelpump if it can be disassembled. if so, disassemble it and check the internal diaphragma for cracks, it is sometimes just litttle riped what is a cause of the Fail. Some of the Fuelpumps cant be disassembled. -> exchange. I did the Enginefuelpump rework on our Landlady‘s Mower, it had a suction fuelpump, after change the broken diaphragma with a thin rubberfoil it works again like a charme. Btw. Great Rig you have, great Worker but the Grass height i see on the Picts, can be a fight with the Elements for the Deck.
