In WI, farm plates would make it technically illegal to pull your camper with that truck. Farm plates here are for Farm purposes only, with the exception of groceries or church. It is not heavily enforced though. Duel Purposes Farm plates allow you to use a truck as you wish. Farm plates are cheap ($45) and are good for 2yrs. Duel Purpose Farm plates price is determined by the trucks GVW and need to be renewed every year.

I think the spares will be strapped down somewhere for this trip, but I’d like to build a couple of these out of round tube:

This is true. Punkin farmer has got farm plates and got busted for putting his pontoon in. Cop just happened to be sitting at the landing. Cop just pretty much told him not to get caught again. Farmer joked that he was going to fish for carp for pumpkin fertilizer!

I found out today that a private truck, or “Not For Hire” on the doors makes this a personal use vehicle.  I Goo-Gone-d the rest of the adhesive from the previous company and the US DOT numbers off.  I’ll have Not For Hire on the truck in a couple spots before the trip!

I tossed a tool kit, chainfall hoist, wheel chock and will have a 12 ton bottle jack soon in the aluminum tool box today.

I also did some calculations.  We should be able to round trip THIS TRUCK for less than $600 to the Big Show and back!  :ROTF:

Are you bringing your own tree for the hoist? :helmet:

I figured I would post this picture before I wreck the transfer.  I was beating the tires and wheels off of the rear of the farm truck a while back and saw this near perfect imprint of the tire ratings!

Reminds me of how I used to use Silly Putty to copy newspaper comics when I was a kid.
Didn’t ever see rubber transfer on to wood before. Pretty cool.

I'd wonder about the condition of the rubber on that tire, but I realized its probably just the dirt that had accumulated.

Like a rock star!  No road issues here, and 8.5 mpg average.  I’d say that’s a win!

That's just over 7mpg over here. That'd scare me stiff.

I didn't realize this rig was a 454. I'd love to find one of those newer (gen IV?) 454s to put in my 73 vette. Roller cam...one piece rear main seal...*grunts like Tim the tool man*...

Gasoline is ~USD 3.15 per U.S. gallon.  vs. about USD 7.00 in your part of the world!

A CDL is required to operate any vehicle weighting over 26,000 pounds, any vehicle with air brakes, or used to transport more that 10 passengers including the driver.

Unless it is a motor home, then it can be as big as you want, air brakes, etc. Anybody with a valid drivers license can operate one of those.

Our big hauler is under 26,000lbs and has hydraulic brakes "juice brakes" , so it does not require a special license to drive.

Unless your combination is over 26K and your trailer is over 10,000 lbs. . . . I used to be a DOT guy in PA, but most states are similar with CDL regulations, they adopt the federal regulations. Here's a cheat sheet.

As long as you are not getting paid or compensated in any way you DO NOT need a CDL no matter what you're driving. HAZMAT does NOT count in that rule.

Registrations however, are what varies state to state.

As long as it meets the regulations in your own state and you're not overweight or over-width or being compensated, you should be okay in every other state.
