Pullstart 62,878 #77 Posted June 3, 2021 No blood yet! It’s completely welded now, flex plate is swapped and loc-tited, now I’m working on getting the dowels out of the block to run a little longer style.

Seniors & levers fit real nice in his enclosed ...... Now I KNOW you are ALOT better at welding than I but to quote gorgeous George again...I dunno man she kinda funny.... I woulda looked for a boneyard find on the bell. Then again Kev check this out ... new tires put on the enclosed 5/4/20 and this happened. Load D rated and running 65 MPH on an interstate. Lucky it didn't mess up the fender too much. Don't know what the speed rating on them is but dead empty and properly inflated. Maybe you don't want to borrow my stuff . 'Course I know how you like roadside fixes! 1 1

squonk 41,118 #87 Posted June 4, 2021 Trailer tires. 2 years old, toss them if you do any serious hauling. I used to run LT tires on my bigger trailers.

Not sure will have to look ... most likely chinese. Got them from Nappy in Montello. Tell you what tho if he don't come clean and warranty it I'll be yanking the other three off and goin different. Then the maker is gonna get a nasty gram. I lent the trailer out to the Beeve to haul some crap and it happened on him. He said he'd buy a replacement but I said ney ney it's the principle of the matter now. I think what we used it two times last year for a wrangle?? 1 minute ago, squonk said: Trailer tires. 2 years old, toss them Come again Mike? ....just over a year and very little miles on them... dang near got nubbies yet.. Pullstart 62,878 #89 Posted June 4, 2021 @squonk @WHX24 our RV salesman in 2018 said 2-3 years. They rot from the inside out. My local tire guy is my Caddy’s son. He says 5 years and he sells ‘em every day. I’d rather hear from a tire guy than an RV guy, but I don’t like blowouts either. Mine were coming up on 3 years in FL last week when one of those blew. I opted for 4 brand new also. Jake my tire buddy said he would have gladly resold my other three

Come again Mike? ....just over a year and very little miles on them... dang near got nubbies yet.. Trailer tires are pretty much junk IMHO. Tire guy is correct IF HE SELLS DECENT TIRES!!! . Most RV/trailers come with the cheapest thing they can get away with. Car manufacturers are the same way. I worked in car shops and RV shops. Seen it every day. The big problem with trailer tires is they sit with the sun baking on them. Sometimes with a load on them all the time. That's why you see the RV's parked with the tire covers on them. Get a decent brand highway tire like the ones designed for pick ups. Also take your bearings apart every year and clean and inspect. I don't care if you have bearing buddies. I just bought a cheapie 15" Trailer tire and wheel from Tractor Supply. Why I had a coupon for one but my little trailer is light and it only travels 500 miles round trip to the show. and 40 miles to the steam show every year. and an occasional trip around home. If I was hauling big loads all the time I'd be down the street at my tire dealer getting some Coopers Edited June 4, 2021 by squonk

squonk 41,118 #93 Posted June 4, 2021 (edited) That tire blew because A. You ran over something or B. Blew from the inside out Looks like side wall gave way where it connects to the tread. (highest stress area) 1 more thing. Wheel alignment. Haven't seen a trailer yet that good alignment. Have seen many trailer tires worn down prematurely with scuffing and sidewall wear. also trailer tire are generally a softer compound which wears quicker. We have had tread separation problems running LT tires on our 5th wheel flat bed. We have now switched to an H rated 14ply trailer tire with an 81mph speed rating, basically semi trailer tires on 16" rims
squonk 41,118 #95 Posted June 4, 2021 Pretty much have to look at load and speed ratings. again, it depends on what you're going to be doing with the trailer. Back and forth to Lowes for flowers and pots, you can get by with what ever. Interstate use with a decent load, spend more on the tires and keeping the trailer out of the sun when parked. UV rays raise hell with today's rubber.

lynnmor 7,306 #97 Posted June 4, 2021 The tire blew up just like it was supposed to do, it is a China Bomb. Goodyear gave up on making Marathon trailer tires in China twice, now they make the Endurance ST tire in the USA. It is those tires, or LT tires if you actually want to be safe.
WHX?? 48,815 #98 Posted June 4, 2021 We had this discussion a couple years ago and Aldon went for some of those Goodyears.. bout fell off my barstool when saw what he paid. Better than taking out half the hauler if it blows I guess.
