The 17 year Cicada visit!

Sitting in the backyard flower garden scoping out the Cicada’s and listening to their humming !   
 

Not a very nice looking insect but they are thick here in Indiana after four or five days of hot weather.  They have emerged from their sleep! 
 

The last picture is of a French Cicada wall pocket for displaying flowers.  The French have been making this design for years.  It’s very quiet every year!

We don't have any here in Maryland where I live. They are about 15 miles from here though. I was hoping for a large batch that I could deep fry and coat with chocolate. Thought I'd bring some to the big show rather than Mrs. M's cookie bars.

I work around a bunch of usually pretty rough fellas. they know about my proclivity to gather "plan B" knowledge, and that I'm a pretty self reliant person in the woods, and one of them thought it would be pretty funny to bring me a cicada snack! When I munched it down, they all turned kinda green Guess I had the fun instead!

They've been saying they're coming out in NJ but I hain't heard a one yet.

 

I did see a bit on "Sunday Morning" TV about deep frying and chocolate dipping. 

 

 

I dunno... I think I'd rather eat 'possum.
