Pic Tecumseh HH160 Carb Linkage Set Up

OK got the carb rebuilt on the C-160 but I am a little puzzled by the carb linkage and governor.  Have a Tecumseh HH160 and Walbro carb.

 

Does anyone have any pics or diagrams on the way the linkage was originally designed. 

 

Again, I am starting with things in boxes for the most part so I have no starting reference point.  I looked in the Tecumseh engine manual and did not see what I am looking for, may have missed it but 3-5 pics would help a ton.

This is what I have.  The problem is that when i move the throttle cable it moves nothing on carb.  Does not move  the throttle arm - or what I think is throttle.  
 

Does the engine need to be running to move throttle on top of Carb ?

For some engines, the governor pulls the throttle plate to full throttle when the engine is stopped and moving the throttle lever does not cause movement at the throttle plate. That said, for other engines, there is movement and the lever can move the plate to its idle position.

I don't know which of these apply to your engine but someone here will.

 

To those who are already deeply familiar with carb-governor interaction, the following paragraphs should be ignored!

 

The throttle cable is actually only influencing the governor by applying pressure through the tension of a spring ("raising" the throttle lever pulls on the spring which pulls on the governor which opens the throttle plate. Then, as the engine speeds up, the governor pulls the other way, against the spring, to offset some of the pressure from the throttle cable allowing the engine to stabilize at the new speed--its a Ying and Yang thing). It's the linkage from the governor which moves the throttle plate on the carb (via the linkages you see in the picture).

 

The point of the governor is to manage the carb throttle plate to keep the engine near a desired speed (which you set using the confusingly named "throttle lever") based on the actual speed of the engine. Turning too fast? Back off the throttle. Getting bogged down? Open the throttle.

Ok Duke here's what I have. 

Keep in mind I've not had this one running but the linkage appears to be in good original working order. 

The angles are a little different because I have the muffler and air cleaner to go around. 

 

I quoted your pics to this reply so they're in the same window. 

 

 

******* THE THINGS I NOTICE:

1. Your governor to carb linkage rod is in the opposite hole  on the carb end.  

This would EXACTLY REVERSE the action of the governor. 

2. The throttle spring on the governor arm is in a different location. 

This would affect rate and time of the throttle opening and closing.

Thanks Eric - this is all so extremely helpful.  I was taking a shot in the dark on the set up - and as I had feared guessed wrong.  That is what makes this forum so great, can rely on others for reliable information.

Alright - slow and steady but I think we have a prior owner modification that I didn’t realize until comparing Eric’s pics above.  
 

Is it possible that the PO tried to work around the governor issue ?  
 

Looks like the PO tried to plug the fuel line or am I looking at something else and showing my stupidity?

Well the good news is that after a new battery, carb rebuild (not sure correct - see above), all new fuel lines, fuel filter and tank clean - she does start and run. 

 

No adjustments yet so she surges a little - may be related to governor issue - don't know.

It's into the crankcase where pressure will fluctuate so I'm not thinking inlet at all. It's too high up to be an oil level check port, I think, though I do wonder what's on the inside behind it. Maybe a tap for a pulse fuel pump?

Do you have the wheel hubs off?

 

If not please do NOT use a standard 3 jaw puller.

I believe this to be true although it isn't easily seen in my above pics.

Yes Sir, wheel hubs off.  They were already off and in the parts box when I picked up machine.

That and the hitch pin are the tough parts.
