PbFlinger 64 #26 Posted June 1, 2021 I tried to straighten out the spindle drive pulley that got damaged. No joy. Although I was able to get it pretty uniformly opened back up to its original width, looking at it edge on it just wasn’t the same profile. It would probably run, but I’m afraid it would probably wear the belt pretty quickly. It’s partner had been slipping on the spindle shaft, and had some irregular wear on the hub surface. The much harder shaft is ok. If I had to run them I would; but I don’t. New ones on order. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

peter lena 8,588 #29 Posted June 1, 2021 @PbFlinger, nice job on that , while you were right there, did you pop off those wide rubber bearing seals , clean out the grease and replace with A HI TEMP , POLYUREA ANTI SLING GREASE ? done that to all my similar bearings , without the change , the whining noise starts all to soon. having done a number of decks , while you are there , is a good opportunity , to eliminate a problem , good luck with it , pete Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I gritted my teeth, muttered a little incantation to the mythical spirit Lubros, spilled a little on the ground for fallen grease monkeys, and packed them with the same stuff that’s been spinning around in all of my bearings like this for 40+ years. PbFlinger 64 #34 Posted June 13, 2021 Finally got back to working on this. Repair filler fitted. It’s on a compound curve. The front of the deck is curved, and the edge is rolled forward. PbFlinger 64 #38 Posted June 13, 2021 The deck edge in front of the other blade was bent in from impacts, and completely eaten through by the blade. To properly repair it, I would have to cut off the roller bracket, and do a similar repair. Due to the complexity of this, and the scope of the job, I elected to just weld it all up and grind it down. Not too elegant, but it’s a working mower deck and not Kindig job. In fact, next fall I'm planning on adding a rod all the way around the perimeter in addition to some other reinforcements. I've been meaning to ask; why do you fling lead? After finishing the repair section I noticed a crack & thin section next door. I tried to fill it & it just kept running away. About 3am, after several weld/grind sessions and about a quart of Kentucky’s finest, I said, “Look here. I’ve got 100lbs of wire, another quart, and we can keep this up till noon.” After 5lb or so, we came to this agreement.
